Sample Itinerary

Day 1: Meet the Artist
Day 1 will be based at the artists home and studio near Patiiri. All painters and their non painting partners will be introduced to Chris and his wife Jane as well as everyone else. Chris's paintings and work in progress can be seen in his studio; this will be an opportunity to discuss the forthcoming weeks itinerary and give Chris a chance to informally discuss individual and group requirements. He will talk not only about his work but also the island itself.
A demonstration of his watercolour technique will be followed by lunch and wine which is included in the tuition price on day 1.

Day 2: The Old Village of Alonissos
The narrow alleyways with old buildings, climbing plants, ancient pots and shadows ever changing, make this a great first location to start your drawing and painting on Alonissos.

Day 3: Megalos Mourtias
A wonderful bay with interesting old boats, tavernas, seascape, rock formations and ancient olive groves.

Day 4: Rousoum/Votsi
Two different harbours one with small quaint tavernas and shaded tree lined vistas, the other a more old style working harbour. Both great to paint and totally different from the Old Village.

Day 5: Old Village Views
Because the Old Village looks fantastic from a distance, Chris will show you great places to capture the amazing clifftop spectacle from various angles and locations.

A critique (optional) will be arranged during the holiday and a very informal showing of work will be followed by a celebratory dinner where all students and friends, along with local Greek personalities, will join together at a local taverna for a night to remember.

This is just an example of 1 week - the itinerary is flexible - (there are certainly plenty of different locations to choose from) and can be extended to accommodate a fortnights tuition or even the odd few days.

Please ask for a fact sheet detailing materials required, or if you are only trying out watercolour painting for the odd day, paper and paints can be hired on a daily basis. To check availability please email Chris or Jane Hughes janechris.hughes@tesco.net

Because Chris is resident on the island from the beginning of May through to October, it is possible to have as much or as little tuition at any time to suit, this could be individual, families, or as part of a group.
Contact Chris direct to discuss.

Getting There:

The nearest airport is on Skiathos (most Uk airports fly to Skiathos on Fridays between May and October). A short taxi ride is then required to the port from where a hydrofoil or ferry will take you to Alonissos (approx 1and a half hours).

2008 PRICES
Full weeks painting tuition with Christopher Hughes 250€ per person
odd days by arrangement (payable direct to the artist)
A typical 7 day flight, transfer and accomodation deal with an operator is about £500(depending on date time and departure airport)

As tour operators have the bulk of Skiathos flights it is often easier and more economic to use their services; please look at the operators on the useful links page

We can however, advise on independent travel, transfers and accomodation.
